Meet our dogs

The Alaskan Huskies adopted by the Association!

All our dogs, (with one exception!), were either adopted, rehomed or purely rescued. Some were rehomed by their former professional kennels or mushers as it was not the right place for them. Others were given to us by their owners (families, or private musher) who couldn't keep them anymore for various personal reasons. Four of them were real rescue. Thanks to the support and intervention of other mushers and animal welfare organisms who took them away on time, they got the chance to start a new life among our small tribe.

In total we have welcomed over 30 dogs at the Striders. Some were meant to stay, others stayed only as fosters, got some home and social training before moving to their new home. Since July 2024, the Striders Adventures tribe amounts to 15 Alaskan huskies, plus Sparta. It is the maximum number for us, with our current resources, as we want to provide them with the best care possible.

  • Baby, and her Yoda ears!

    Baby is one of the four sisters named after the Spice girls - three of them are part of the Striders Adventures team, born in summer 2019. She can be differentiated from her sisters by her small white sock on the front left leg.

    Baby is an amazing lead dog. Tirelss and driven, she can keep on and on. We have to give her some rest sometimes so she doesn't get burnt out. She loves it so much that she can't held in place before a run, and putting the harness on is an adventure of a kind! Like Typy and her two sisters, she can be run free as she would never venture away from us. She's the boss of the pack and makes it clear ;-)

  • Hassu, the Dark & Blue-Eyed Guy

    Hassu is Typy and Vinku's brother and they all arrived from a small kennel that had to stop their activities.

    "hassu" in Finnish means "funny, wacky" and he actually that suits him pretty well!, at least once he overcomes his natural shyness. I'd say he comes second after Typy when it comes to shyness..! But then, he's Mr Hugs & Cuddles!

    There's really something I like about this doggy and his personality. Hassu is good in every position in the team; he's actually a very good and driven command lead dog on short to middle runs. On long runs, it's a bit too much for him.

  • Posh, the classy one

    Posh is the second Spice girl of the team and her name really suits her! She has two white socks on her front legs which really make me think of her wearing white gloves! She actually even runs with style LOL

    She loves to roll in the snow and nearly always lays down whenever we stop the sled. But otherwise, she's always very playful and lively, and her favourite game is to jump on her sister, Sporty.

    Posh has grown very cuddly and loves to hug people. She's an extremely reliable, tireless team and wheel dog. She can also go in lead, even though it's not a best place in the team.

  • Vinku, the Winky Boy

    Vinku is the other blue-eyed doggo of the team,  brother of Typy and Hassu. And he's this kind of dog that you either love or irritates you! I fell in love with him, because he's such a kind soul and so joyful! He loves to please, run, and play, and can show it in a very loud way LOL

    Once he starts to trust and knows he gets the level of exercise and action, he's actually a different dog. Less noisy and even more patient, he looks more relaxed, yet real eager to go for a run or fun time in the running fence.  Vinku usually goes in team or wheel; he can go in lead but looses focus too quickly!

  • Sporty, the Fast & Furious Girl 

    Sporty is the most energetic of the three Spice girls owned by the Association and also the one that wants the most attention from people. She's a little unsecure with other dogs.

    She's the one always eager to go, jumping and pulling the team as she doesn't like to stop too much to rest. She can go in any position in the team, and makes a fantastic pair with Baby in lead. Baby and her are my top choice as leaders for the races and navigating the lakes. Sporty would also stop and come to me if I call her, which is super handy.

  • Oak, a Husky with a Malinois look

    Oak was also born at Bearhill Husky, and that's how I actually could get her. She's one of the puppies I trained during my stay over there. She didn't enjoy being a professional sled dog, and I think she was a late-bloomer. In 2023, she did an amazing season, enjoying going with the sled, and showing all the power and strength she's capable of.

    Oak is extremely friendly, playful, and the tallest of our dogs!

  • Hazel, the sweety pie

    Hazel is Oak's sister and a perfect addition to our dog pack. She didn't enjoy being a professional sled dog, but is also a very talented sled dog who needed more time to get to her full potential.

    In 2023, Hazel took part in all the races, and was in lead several times. She has a strong temper and will make a good lead dog as she gets more mature. She's best in team and swing.

    She's super sweet but also bold and strong-headed. She's best friend with the Ewoks (Hassu, Typy & Vinku) and loves to play with them in the running fence.

  • Pezo The Boy

    Pezo was born in Sweden and raised in Finland in a commercial kennel. He was adopted in December 2022 and it was as if he has always been with us. He was suffering from an eye condition that completely heals in less than one year.

    Extremely powerful and tireless dog, he loves running! That's all his life and likes it far more than going for the odd walk! He's best in team, swing or wheel. He's a great eater, but needs a lot of food to keep his weight. A pure athlete!

    Super cheerful and friendly, he's an easy going dog, who learnt what cuddles and being cared for means...and loves it! He's usually sharing the fence with the Spice girls, but could get on with any others, except Bobby and Vinku... Boys boys..;)

  • Vikten

    Our latest recruit! We didn't plan to add any other member to our team...but Vikten showed up, and it was a no-brainer. Shy little Alaskan husky male, born in November 2022, Vikten comes from a bigger kennel in Kiruna, Sweden. he wasn't happy there and his breeder thought Vikten would be way better in a place that had time for him, without any commercial pressure.

    He's adorable, with his mini-wolf look and bi-color eyes (heterochromia), and after only a few weeks with us, Vikten has already made impressive progress. We've started him in the harness and he loves i! He wants nothing but to be in lead and shows a incredible drive to run. Still a long road ahead, but it looks like a very promising one ;-) Another wonderful story to be followed...

  • RIP Tiny Typy

    Typy left us tragically and very suddenly on 22.01.2024. Bold, tough, stubborn, always eager to run, she was also so joyous, playful, loyal and loved cuddles. She had done huge progresses since we adopted her in 2021 and was really trusting people more and more. How deeply this little female is missed in our tribe! RIP my sweetie... run forever free (and fast!) on the Northern Lights
